Niger’s President Tiani Visits Burkina Faso to Strengthen Sahel Cooperation
The President of Niger, Gen. Abdourahamane Tiani, on Tuesday arrived in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, on a friendship and working visit.
Tiani was accompanied by Niger’s Minister of State for National Defence, Gen. Salifou Mody, and Mr. Salim Mahamadou Gado, Deputy Cabinet Director at the Presidency.
On arrival at the Ouagadougou International Airport, Tiani was received by Burkina Faso’s Head of State, Capt. Ibrahim Traoré.
After a brief exchange of pleasantries between the two delegations at the Presidential Hall of the airport, the two leaders held a closed-door meeting.
According to officials, the visit is part of ongoing efforts to reaffirm the ties of friendship, solidarity and cooperation among Sahel states.
The leaders of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso have in recent months stepped up consultations to strengthen security and development cooperation within the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).
